Vanilla Blue team

Meet the team

1. Tell us a bit about yourself

My family is everything to me. Worked in hospitality for over 30 years. I am addicted to exercise and healthy living. I also have a passion for great food and coffee

2. How long have you worked at Vanilla Blue?

It will be 2 years in May. I lead the sandwich section in the Kitchen. My work day starts about 4am each day and my team and I often make over 1500 sandwiches every day.

3. If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?

I am really hoping not to be on death row, but if I was, I would order a Fijian Buffet. This is a traditional method of cooking involving digging a pit into the ground and placing hot coals inside. Everything from fish to chicken, pork and vegetables can be cooked in a lovo and will also sometimes also be bundled up in banana leaf to retain their moisture.

4. Your go-to karaoke song?

Well to be honest, I avoid public singing whenever possible, particularly Karaoke.

5. What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you?

My Husband and children are my whole my world.

6. So What's your view? Pineapple on pizza or no pineapple?

Lots of pineapple!

7. What would your spirit animal be?

Elephant

1. Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m from the Netherlands and I came to Australia after finishing uni, to travel around and work for half a year. My parents were expecting me home for Christmas that year, but I fell in love with the country and 4 years later I’m still here!

I’ve been with Vanilla Blue for nearly 2 years now

3. If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?

Perhaps a little feast of Dutch food, some kale stamppot, rookworst, stroopwafels, licorice and definitely some traditional croquettes and hot chips in a paper cone with sour mayonnaise! (don’t judge haha)

4. How many tattoos do you have?

I don’t have any at the moment. My mind is going back and forth about getting one though!

5. Your go-to karaoke song?

Mr. Brightside – The Killers

6. Are you a morning person or evening person?

I’m very much a morning person, however I do enjoy a night out!

7. What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you?

My parents infected me with the travel bug! ? They have always taken me and my siblings on road trips all across Europe and even came to visit me in Australia last Christmas. I have visited over 40 countries and I’m always looking to discover new places whenever I have time off (even if it’s just a long weekend!)

8. What is your secret talent?

I know this might make me sound like an old lady, but I do like knitting and gardening and I love trying out new hobbies. Not sure if I’d call it a secret talent though, some of the outcomes aren’t as good as others haha.

9. So what’s your view? Pineapple on pizza or no pineapple?

Nah, no pineapple on pizza!

10. What would your spirit animal be?

According to an online quiz (I know, they’re so reliable) I’m a turtle ? peaceful, determined and serene.

I have worked in hospitality for the past 20 years. Having worked in numerous kitchens I have seen a range of restaurant and catering operations that provide a great depth of experience to draw on. I held my first head Chef position when I was 19 years old and have continued to learn and grown from there. I am blessed with a gorgeous family including 2 beautiful daughters, a newly born son and my lovely wife Michelle. Life is pretty busy with 3 little people, but given the chance I like to get out on my mountain biking with friends.
